Al Ain Driving Guide: Tips for Visitors

A rental car gives you time to explore Al Ain at your own pace. Before setting off, plan your route and check the road signs, lane markings and parking restrictions along the way.

Follow the Lane Markings

Choose the correct lane before a junction and follow its direction signs and markings. Signal and check surrounding traffic before changing lanes. Being in an inner lane does not mean you can cut across another vehicle to exit.

Follow the Posted Speed Limit

Watch for speed-limit signs throughout your trip and adjust your driving to the road and visibility. Leave a safe gap from the vehicle ahead; do not assume a speed allowance above the posted limit.

Check Parking Signs

Al Ain has Mawaqif parking areas, including paid spaces and spaces with resident restrictions. Check the signs, permitted hours and payment requirements before leaving your car. Do not assume a space outside a shop or home is free. Abu Dhabi Mobility publishes the current parking guidance linked below.

The 'Flash' Rule

If someone behind you flashes their high beams, they want to pass. Even if you're at the speed limit, the local custom is to safely move to the right lane and let them go. It keeps the traffic flowing and keeps everyone happy.

Stay safe, enjoy the wide roads, and if you ever get lost, just look for Jebel Hafeet—it's the best landmark we've got!
